President's Message: Pragmatics Celebrates Labor Day

As August ended and summer transitions to fall, Labor Day is on the horizon.  While Labor Day is not one of the traditionally festive U.S. holidays, it’s greatly anticipated for the three-day weekend, the end of summer, and the return of students to school.  But what exactly is Labor Day, and what does it celebrate?

Labor Day became a U.S. federal holiday in 1894, but by that time thirty states already officially celebrated the holiday.  It was created by members of the labor movement, who organized strikes and rallies to fight for better working conditions amid the Industrial Revolution.  On September 5, 1882, New York City union leaders organized what is now considered the country’s first Labor Day parade.  In 1894, Congress passed an act making Labor Day a legal holiday, and President Grover Cleveland signed it into law on June 28, 1894.  Labor Day is a time to pay tribute to American workers and their many contributions and achievements.

Labor Day is a reminder of the hard work you’ve done all year long.  And, while we work in teams, each individual’s contribution is valuable and makes a difference.  It is your effort every day that propels Pragmatics forward.  Thank you for your incredibly hard work this year. Take pride in all you have accomplished.  It is time to relax and enjoy your Labor Day activities.
