In 1985 our CEO and founder, Dr. Long Nguyen, left his teaching position at Georgetown University to start Pragmatics. Since then Pragmatics has been on a mission to provide top-notch customer satisfaction through hard work, leadership, and technical excellence.
From 1986 to 1995, Pragmatics was an 8(a) company with a distinguished record of outstanding customer service for a diverse customer base, including several cabinet-level departments. After graduation from the 8(a) program in 1995, Pragmatics invested heavily in process improvement, attaining SEI CMM Level 2 assessment in 1999. This demonstrated that we had standard, repeatable procedures for technical project management to ensure high quality deliverables were produced on time and within budget. Since then, we have continued to adopt industry best practices in management and quality, attaining SEI CMM Level 3 in 2001, and then transitioning to SEI CMMI Level 3 in 2003, attaining CMMI Level 4 in 2006, and achieving ISO 9001:2000 in 2004.
Pragmatics became an employee-owned company in October 2000, when all employees were granted stock options. Continuing our policy of being inclusive, all Pragmatics employees are eligible for this benefit. Our CEO wanted to reward all of the employees for their dedication and provide them a concrete stake in Pragmatics’ future.
Pragmatics also began to diversify our service offerings. Building upon our core
software engineering business practice, Pragmatics added information assurance services in 2000 and
program management services in 2002. These capabilities have positioned Pragmatics at the high end of the growing information technology market.
Pragmatics has won an impressive array of over 19 contracting vehicles with a wide range of Defense and civilian agencies, including the Defense Information Systems Agency, the GSA, and the Department of the Army, Justice, Treasury, and Commerce. These vehicles provide access to a diverse set of customers with nationally important challenges.
In 2004, Pragmatics won a large number of industry awards, including Treasury Dedicated Service Provider of the Year, Army Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) Small Business of the Year (nominated for Army Small Business of the Year), and the GovCon Small Business of the Year Finalist. Our CEO was recognized by the George Mason University Diversity Board as Entrepreneur of the Year. Iowa State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences awarded him a 2004 Citation of Merit for exemplary professional achievement. In 2005, Dr. Long Nguyen was also recognized on the annual Federal 100, a list of 100 leaders who had a substantial impact on the government IT community in 2004.
At Pragmatics, we are proud of our accomplishments in supporting client missions, our highly professional and qualified staff, and our active involvement in the community. We look forward to building upon these successes and accomplishing even more in the future.
